Backpack Program
The Hunger and Health Coalition is THE designated distributor for Feeding America's Back Pack Program. Registered Dietitians work to create "backpacks" filled with foods to nourish children on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program over the weekend.
Did you know that 1 in 4 children in Watauga County struggle with food insecurity?
HOW TO SIGN UP
Contact your child's guidance counselor or teacher for more details. Every effort will be made to keep all information confidential. The Backpack Program operates under anonymity to protect the privacy of both the child and parents as food insecurity and poverty are often stigmatized in our society.
HOW IT WORKS
Our organization is committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for anyone in our community to access food. This is why we deliver food packs straight to the child's home — instead of distributed at school like other backpack programs, reducing the burden and allowing kids to just be kids.
HOW TO HELP
The Backpack Program relies on local school systems, other non profits and donors like you! To make a donation or to sponsor a child please use the button below to contact our Director of Operations, Anita Wilson. Or feel free to give us a call to learn more details!
